Propose in Paris! Virginia, that is. My husband and I spent our wedding night in Paris at the Ashby Inn. Just over an hour outside of the hustle and bustle of DC, the Inn is one of the most romantic getaways accessible to Washingtonians. We love it because it's fancy without being stuffy. The Inn is owned by a husband and wife and that love shows through everywhere. Each of the ten rooms is decorated differently so you are far away from the cookie cutter feel of a hotel. Our picks are the School House rooms. Each has its own private balcony and fireplace. Don't even get us started on the bamboo sheets. Best we've ever seen.
While there are a million things to do in the surrounding area - wineries, antiquing, hiking - there isn't a whole lot to do here at the Inn but just be together and take in the gorgeous Shenandoah scenery surrounding you. The distractions of your daily schlep are purposely removed so ditch your cell phone and make yourself sink into the chill the area calls for.
After you get the YES, celebrate with dinner in their award-winning restaurant.
